About the Position

FreeFrom is looking for an incredibly enthusiastic and innovative Director of Cash Assistance Programs who wants nothing more than to spend their days strategizing and implementing plans to get cash to survivors. The ideal candidate has a strong finance background, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an inclination to disrupt systems to work for survivors.

Responsibilities

  • Cash assistance program: Oversee the management, implementation and growth of our emergency cash assistance program, Safety Fund –  a program disseminating unrestricted cash to survivors. This includes: 
    • Launching new rounds of our safety fund and managing cross-team involvement in each round; 
    • Overseeing the payment and delivery of our safety fund;
    • Establishing effective and trauma-informed communications channels with the survivors whom we serve;
    • Creating resources for survivors about this program;
    • Building out new systems and processes to better deliver this service; 
    • Creating resources for other organizations and agencies who want to implement a similar program; 
    • Presenting webinars, speaking on panels, and participating in working groups on this innovative initiative to support industry wide adoption;
    • Continual learning about the field, new products and financial vehicles that can benefit survivors and innovations that FreeFrom can learn from; 
    • Advocating for structural investment in unrestricted cash assistance by federal, state and local agencies and private philanthropy;
    • Supervising Cash Assistance Manager(s); and
    • Managing program budget and cash management.
  • Savings Matching Program: Oversee the management, implementation and growth of our Savings Matching Program – a program that supports and encourages survivors to start saving money by matching a certain amount saved each month. This includes: 
    • Launching new savings matching program rounds and managing cross-team involvement in each round; 
    • Overseeing the payment and delivery of our savings matching program;
    • Establishing effective communications channels with the survivors whom we serve;
    • Creating resources for survivors about this program;
    • Building out new systems and processes to better deliver this service; 
    • Creating resources for other organizations and agencies who want to implement a similar program; 
    • Presenting webinars, speaking on panels, and participating in working groups on this topic;
    • Continual learning about the field, new products and financial vehicles that can benefit survivors and innovations that FreeFrom can learn from; and
    • Advocating for structural investment in this solution by federal, state and local agencies and private philanthropy.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in finance (private or public sector);
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferable life/professional experience;
  • Strong awareness of and interest in learning about new financial sectors, products and instruments;
  • Strong experience working with different payment vehicles, studying tax laws, and accounting rules; 
  • A strategic mindset and a curiosity to continue learning and adapting to meet the needs of survivors; 
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as troubleshooting expertise;
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills;
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles;
  • Spanish language fluency preferred but not required; 
  • Ability to speak, hear, and understand speech at normal room levels;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; 
  • Ability to write routine reports, and correspondence;
  • Strong people skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to collaborate and work well with others;
  • Outstanding speaking and interpersonal communication skills (written and oral);
  • Proven commitment to advancing social justice;
  • Must bring enthusiasm, creativity, patience, and flexibility to the work;
  • Excellent organizational skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work quickly and adapt to evolving strategies and circumstances;
  • Comfortable with taking risks and otherwise bucking trends and traditional approaches; and
  • Commitment to FreeFrom’s mission, innovation, and the highest standards of activism.
