Every journey is different. Find the tools that work for yours.
Welcome to The Collective’s Toolbox, the Survivor Collective’s library of practical financial resources created by survivors for survivors of gender-based violence.
The Collective’s Toolbox (previously known as the Resource Hub) began as a shared Google Drive filled with guides, worksheets, and resources that survivors repeatedly asked us for regarding how to navigate debt after harm, build credit, choose a bank account, save money, understand finances, start a business, and more. As our community grew, so did the collection. We’ve brought these tools together in one place so they’re easier to find, return to, and share.
Whether you’re taking your very first step toward financial stability or continuing to build long-term financial resilience, there’s something here for you. Our resources span every stage of our Surviving to Thriving Framework, because healing and financial well-being are not one-size-fits-all journeys.
HOW TO USE THE COLLECTIVE’S TOOLBOX
Think of these resources as tools, not rules.
Come here to learn a new skill, build a financial habit, explore a topic you’ve always wanted to understand, or simply save a guide for a time when you’re ready. You don’t need to read everything at once, and there isn’t a checklist you have to complete.
Many of us have been taught to blame ourselves for financial hardship when, in reality, survivors often face systemic barriers that make financial security more difficult to achieve. The goal of The Toolbox is to offer information, encouragement, and options while honoring your autonomy to decide what works best for your life.
Be gentle with yourself. Take what serves you, leave what doesn’t, and come back whenever you need.
A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
We encourage you to…
- Share these resources with other survivors who may benefit.
- Save tools to revisit whenever you’re ready.
- Move at your own pace.
- Use these resources alongside trusted professionals (such as financial counselors, accountants, attorneys, or business advisors) when appropriate.
Remember…
- You don’t have to do everything at once.
- Your financial circumstances do not define your worth.
- Not every resource will fit every situation and that’s okay.
- You’re welcome to come back whenever you’re ready.
SURVIVOR STORIES
Financial resilience isn’t built through resources alone. It’s also built through community.
Inside The Toolbox, you’ll also find Writing for Change, our survivor writers blog where survivors are paid to share their stories, lessons, and reflections on their survivor journey, navigating money, healing, and building financial resilience. We hope these stories remind you that you are not alone and that collective wisdom can be just as powerful as practical tools.
